IF I HAD ONE DAY… in petaluma, california

northern california is often overshadowed by the magical city san francisco. but there is so much more outside of the city that is itching to be explored. and petaluma, california is one of the many darling towns in northern california that deserves attention.

if i had one day in petaluma i would…

…eat lunch at roy’s. if you’re a hot dog connoisseur like me, you know a good dog when you eat one. and this place serves a good dog. you can get nearly anything you like. however, they strongly discourage ketchup. a couple of my friends tried {and loved} the cheese dog. and i devoured the rueben dog. i’ve also heard wonderful things about the buffalo dog. and if you don’t like hotdogs? no problem. they have a mean selection of sandwiches and completely worth the calories french fries.

…shop for old records at vinyl planet. this store is an impeccably organized vinyl store with an impressive collection of records from nearly all genres. and the prices are right. the average record price is $2.79 and nearly everything is under $10. the store owner is friendly and is as passionate about vinyl as he is customer service. allow yourself some time to peruse the collection here and i promise you won’t be disappointed.

…spend awhile shopping at the thrifty hippy. this fantastic shop is a fairly new thrift store in petaluma, but it’s quickly becoming a downtown favorite. the selection of furniture, clothing, and nic nacs are abundant. and the absolute friendliest people work here. i scored some serious loot on my last trip here for a wallet happy price.

…recharge your batteries at powell’s candy shoppe. while it is a franchise, this tiny lil store is family owned and operated and still has the aroma of a mom and pop shop. there is an abundance of candy from the ordinary to the unexpected and a gelato selection to die for. if i was you, i’d get a bowl of nutella or lavender poppy-seed {i know-strange but fabulous!} gelato and fill up a bag of yummy candy goodies.

IF I HAD ONE DAY IN: san francisco

if i had just ONE day in san francisco, here is how i would want to spend it…

taking gorgeous photos of myself, my friends, my family and the bridge on the marin headlands which is just one exit north of the golden gate bridge.

stopping at pier 39 and (yes it’s painfully touristy) eating a bowl of world famous clam chowder from either boudin‘s or from a street cart. you can see the loud, barking sea lions, eat amazing crepes, and shop in some of the goofiest stores around.

taking a boat cruise and tour alcatraz. i’ve been to alcatraz more times than i can count (that’s me! age 5! see, my first time at a very young age, so yes you can take the kids too!) and i learn something new every time.

spending an hour of two walking the streets of china town taking photos of the lamp posts, graffitied walls, and kitschy shops.

walking the bridge. so many locals live their entire lives without doing it, but the experience is unmatchable.

AND if you happen to have more free time or you’re lucky enough to spend more than one day in the city here are a few more of my favorites. drink the best sangria at chachachas. have the best irish coffee at buena vista. and shop on haight street for the best vintage stores wasteland, held over, and one of the absolute best goodwills in all of san francisco. and allow yourself at least an hour in amoeba records.

am i forgetting something you truly adore? any other san francisco recommendations? i love the city and i’d love any new ideas from you amazing readers.

if you’re lucky enough to spend a day in san francisco, you’re lucky enough

Who says you can’t go back?

been all around the world and as a matter of fact
there’s only one place left, I want to go….

Here’s a quick look at my trip from Ireland back to America using my new favorite app, instagram. Aren’t the photos just so cool? I love this app. Follow me @lizziejaeger on instagram!

Now I’m off to enjoy this beautiful California day with some of my most missed, best friends.

if you’re lucky enough to be happy at home, you’re lucky enough
