I LIVE IN ILLINOIS

Moving from California I admit that it was hard for me to say I was headed to the midwest. It was hard for me to say I was living in the state Illinois. And I mean hard to say literally too… yes I experienced the embarrassment of saying the silent “s.” But I just had the greatest weekend. I met fabulous people. I ate fantastic food. I took beautiful photos of my new city. And now I feel pretty proud to say I live in Chicago, Illinois.

if you’re lucky enough to love where you live, you’re lucky enough

AN UPDATE

and so it seems that i’ve been in chicago exactly two weeks now. i don’t know if you heard this little saying before, but man time flies! i’ve been in chicago exactly HALF of a MONTH. and how is it going you wonder? {by you yes i mean my parents}.

1. apartment hunting: i do mean HUNTING. holy work. i spent three full days searching for a two bedroom apartment for johanna and me. i tried chicago apartment finders, apartment savvy, and apartment people. they were all helpful — some more than others — but i was still not having that much luck. i don’t think we were being too picky but yes, we wanted an apartment without mold, with doors that locked, and with bedrooms large enough for beds. but alas, we found ourselves a pretty little place. and with a view too! {see the photo above!}

2. no car: my beloved prius is still residing in california. i just knew her shiny white self wouldn’t make it in the windy city. she’s too use to her california life style. but, i must say i have quite enjoyed the public transportation system here in chicago. the train? no problem. the bus system? surprisingly pleasant. i am not sure why but i expected to hate buses. bad lizzie.

3. the weather: i lived in san diego for four years and before that sonoma county. therefore my body has been spoiled to the deliciously delicate weather of california. the heat isn’t my favorite thing in the world, but i’m surviving. my first couple of days here were beautiful so i know chicago was trying to break me in easily. i haven’t been brave enough to curl my hair in this humidity yet though.

and you? how is your summer going?

if you’re lucky enough to have something new and exciting to adjust to, you’re lucky enough
